Good to meet you, Terry. Glad to know we share a friendship with Bob--what a GREAT guy! Bob and I played golf together when I was visiting in his area last week, and I got to use my Samurai club with him present.
Thanks for your response to my winter reflections essay, Carol. I'm so sorry we didn't have a chance to ski at this place together when you were up this way earlier in the winter. Our snow came late--and it keeps on coming even though it is now mid-way through April! I must say that I'm out of the mood for skiing at this point!! Looking forward to seeing you again soon.

In all my longing for spring, your photos remind me to not neglect the beauty of the winter landscape. I was especially drawn to the photo of the cattails--the luminous edges, as if they were little suns. The skiing here this winter was scrappy--thin snow, icy--but I still managed to get out a dozen times or so. Some day when I retire I want to head north in the winter and take in more skiing.

I remember Eliot's book, too.....I have no idea where my copy is, but would be fun to look at it again....so lovely to read about your photographic shapers.....you are so good at paying attention to the influences on your life.

Dave, as you can tell from my essay, the geodes owned by my family were found by my grandmother 90 years ago and are now regarded as "heirlooms." They are priceless to us and not for sale.

I think, however, that you can probably find intact Indiana geodes for sale if you contact rock hounds who live in Monroe, Jackson and Lawrence Counties in southern Indiana where these stones are found. The very expensive ones to which you referred--and that are sometimes seen in mineral shows--are probably not from Indiana. Those may even come from other countries and have more colorful crystals than the Indiana variety. Hope this helps.
